Charlie XCX
Recently ordained ULC minister Charlotte Aitchison goes by another name that you may recognize, Charlie XCX! She is the groundbreaking mind behind many chart topping tracks such as Icona Pop’s “I Love it” and the duet “Senorita” sung by Camilla Cabello and Shawn Mendez. She herself is known best for “Boom Clap” the UK and US chart topping party favorite, and “Speeddrive'' from the new Barbie movie soundtrack. The aforementioned tracks have a pop sound although her newest music is often experimental, lying at the intersection of alternative and pop music.
British singer, songwriter Charli grew up in Start Hill, Essex and attended Bishop Stotford’s College. She felt like an outsider, as artists often do. When she was 18 she moved to London to follow her creative sensibility in studying at Slade School of Fine Art, but ended up leaving as she was simultaneously signed to her first record deal Asylum Records.
With the financial support of her parents, Charli has been going strong since the beginning of her trailblazing career when at the young age of fourteen she convinced her parents to loan her the money to record her first album. She chose her name Charli XCX because it was her msn messenger handle as a student. She wrote and recorded her own music with the help of her parents and then released this music on myspace. Her tracks gained the attention of a club promoter who hired her to perform at rave venues and warehouse parties, which became her first gigs. Her parents were so supportive they put on their party hats and chaperoned their underage daughter to play at these underground raves!
From there she has gone on to create seven albums, write countless songs for other artists, headline concert tours, make television appearances, and appear on podcasts. With her Universal Life Church ordination she will likely be soon to add wedding officiating to her long list of accomplishments.
