John Cameron Mitchell
John Cameron Mitchell is an American actor, writer, producer, and director who is most known for his films Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Shortbus, and Rabbit Hole.
In 1998 Mitchell wrote and starred in Hedwig and the Angry Inch, which won an Obie from Broadway musicals category. After he wrote and starred in the Broadway version, 3 years later he wrote and starred in the feature film of the adaption. He won Best Director in 2001 at the Sundance Film Festival, and he was nominated for a Golden Globe as Best Actor in a Musical/ Comedy. In 1985, Mitchell came out as gay to his family and friends and publicly in a New York Times profile in 1992. He is a Radical Faerie, which was influential in Mitchell’s making of Shortbus. He is also a co-founder and DJ of the long-running New York City monthly party Mattachine. He is also an ordained minister.
