Kathleen 'Kathy' Kinney
American comedian, writer, and actor, Kathy Kinney has been an ordained minister through the Universal Life Church since 2014. Most well known for her iconic role as Mimi Bobeck on The Drew Carey Show, her performance as the sassy secretary with a loud personality left a lasting impression in the hearts of many. Born in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, she moved to California after high school, and worked for the California Conservation Corps for a couple of years before attending the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Though she did not complete her degree right away, she did officially receive her degree in 2016. While working as a secretary at WCBS-TV in 1976 she would hone her improvisational comedy skills in the evenings, working at various New York nightclubs. Her improv work eventually led to a job teaching improv classes, where she met director Bill Sherwood, who later wrote a part into his film, Parting Glances, as Joan. This would be her first film role, opening the doors for more television and movie performances, in films such as Scrooged, Stanley & Iris, and television series, Newhart. She continued to make appearances in television shows like Seinfeld, Full House and Boy Meets World, before being cast as Mimi Bobeck on The Drew Carey Show. Her role as Mimi became so well-loved and recognized that she made cameo appearances on other television shows like Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place, and The Hughleys. Since then she has continued to act, with her most recent appearances including the television series Stumptown, American Housewife, and The Secret Life of the American Teenager; she’s expanded her skills to voice acting in roles such as Rhonda in The Penguins of Madagascar television series, and Brat in the cartoon television series, CatDog. In partnership with Cindy Ratzlaff she has also co-written the works, Queenisms: 101 Jolts of Inspiration, and Queen of Your Own Life: The Grown-Up Woman’s Guide to Claiming Happiness and Getting the Life You Deserve. Perhaps her most beloved passion project has been Mrs. P, a YouTube channel where she stars as Mrs. P, reading classic children’s stories to help early readers, ESL students and parents and teachers alike.
