Ron Perlman
Ron Perlman, renowned American actor and New York native, is also a ULC ordained minister! Born in Washington Heights, New York, as a young kid, Perlman struggled with low self-esteem. These struggles have been a driving force behind some of his choice of acting roles, where the character may be unattractive but ultimately endearing.
He attended George Washington High School, and Lehman College, later graduating from The University of Minnesota with his master’s in theater arts. During his college production of Guys and Dolls, his dad was awe-inspired and insisted that Ron had to pursue a career in acting. Making his film debut in the 1981 film, Quest for Fire, it was truly the start of a fulfilling acting career. He would go on to play memorable roles in The Adventures of Huck Finn, Alien Resurrection, and Blade II.
In 2004, Perlman landed the lead role in the comic book adaptation of Hellboy, reprising his role in Hellboy II: The Golden Army. In 2008, Perlman would join the cast of FX’s television series, Sons of Anarchy, as Clay Morrow. He’s also expanded his acting into voice over work, using his distinctive voice in video games such as Halo 2 and Halo 3, as well as Justice League Heroes, Call of Duty: Black Ops III and Fallout 4.
His voicework includes such prominent roles as Podesta, in Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, and Optimal Optimus in Transformers: Power of the Primes. He’s worked multiple times with Guillermo del Toro in his films Cronos, Pacific Rim and the dark-thriller, Nightmare Alley. He touts 18 nominations and 11 wins including Fangoria Chainsaw Best Actor award for Hellboy II: The Golden Army, stretching all the way back to his earliest wins, the 1988 Golden Apple Male Discovery of the Year award, and the 1989 Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series for the TV drama, Beauty and the Beast.
