Alyssa Milano
Alyssa Jayne Milano, is a New York born Italian-American actress, activist, writer, and podcast host. Her career spans back to her youth, with her first acting role in the national touring company of Annie. This role was truly the catalyst for her decades-long career and was immediately followed by television commercial appearances, and other off-Broadway productions, including the first American musical adaptation of Jane Eyre. She made her film debut in the 1984 coming-of-age drama, Old Enough. Alyssa went on to win the part of Tony Danza’s daughter on the ABC sitcom Who’s the Boss?. In the years following she would also make appearances in the films Commando and The Canterville Ghost. Around the same time, Milano signed a five-album record deal which resulted in platinum records in Japan. She never expressed interest in “crossing over” and attempting to build a successful music career in the United States, though she did star in stage productions. She would land her next most notable role in 1998, as Phoebe Halliwell on the television show, Charmed, which ran for 8 seasons. Alyssa Milano and Holly Marie Combs later became producers on the show for the last four seasons. As host and judge on the television competition fashion series, Project Runway: All Stars, Alyssa also became an ordained minister through the Universal Life Church, for the purpose of officiating a wedding on the show. She has since appeared in multiple comedy films such as, Hall Pass, New Year’s Eve and Little Italy. 2013 saw the creation of comic book series, Hacktivist, which explores themes around hacking, global activism, freedom and friendship. Milano continued in this vein and in 2019 launched her podcast, Alyssa Milano: Sorry Not Sorry, featuring actors and activists discussing social and political issues, and eventually published her book Sorry Not Sorry in October 2021 exploring the same issues. Milano has been an outspoken activist since her youth, and in October 2017 became credited for re-launching the #MeToo movement with a social media post speaking to sexual misconduct in Hollywood.
