Whoopi Goldberg
As one of only sixteen entertainers with an Emmy, Grammy, Academy Award, and a Tony, Whoopi Goldberg is a true Renaissance woman and one of the most talented people in Hollywood. Now she can add another title to her impressive resume: Ordained Minister.
A legendary actress and comedian, Goldberg’s show business breakthrough was with her self-titled one-woman show on Broadway. In 1985, she was cast in Steven Spielberg’s period drama film The Color Purple, which kickstarted a film and television career that would make Whoopi a household name. With roles in Ghost, Sister Act, and Star Trek: The Next Generation, Whoopi became a true 90s icon.
Whoopi undoubtedly broke ground for women of color in Hollywood. She became just the second black woman to win an Academy Award for acting for her role in Ghost. She became the highest-paid actress at the time for her role in Sister Act II: Back in the Habit. And in 1994 she became the first black woman to solo host the Academy Awards, a performance so well received that she hosted three additional times, in 1996, 1999, and 2002.
Since 2007, Whoopi’s moderated the daytime talk show The View, which draws millions of viewers each day. Whatever she sets her mind to, it seems to be a great success! With such a wonderful history of hysterical performances in her storied Hollywood career, we can only imagine any weddings she performs using her Universal Life Church ordination will be filled to the brim with heart and humor.
